Boring car - loud car

I hated heavy music for 6 years. Did throw out radios from the AE86 ande MX5 for weight reduction.
In the winter 2011 Carina turned out to be winter car. How boring.
Now there is some 1KW Lanzar OPTI 12 inch in a bandpass in the boot, some 300W mids and two amps ... unfortunately the sub gets only 600W of juice.

Used to hate bandpass, still hat5e it. Sound is cheap.
Going to open the box more for some lower frequencies, but not much hope for nice music. Dont have much time for it too.

Carina ... finaly

The carina got the music a year after I have it. Hm.. am I getting old?:)

Ok, ok - i had a Magnat home subwoofer with 80 watts, but it almost doesnt count because was powered by the equalizer from the old system - the 2x20 watts Kenwood.

Now (for 5 days already) I have some Magnat 300W tube (tubes sucks:)) with some Kenwood amp. It need adjustment but is better than nothing. Pix are coming soon.

Next car, next music

Next car came in Germany - a basic Nissan Sunny... so it badly needed some extras for fun in it. This happend bevore one trip to Berlin - the 1500km were difficult to be survived without the music so I took a KAC 921 200 watts Kenwood amp with an Axton sounboard (2x30cm + mids + highs = 300 watts). As it is well know - soundboard sucks.. so it was changed too soon for a Hifonics 2x250 watts 25cm Zeus bandpass system.

Bandpass sucks... sorry for saying it, but it is for children. Or maybe commersial subwoofers are not that good? Anyway on the way for improoving that Hifonics i bought 2 more amps and a high/mid elipse board.
The configuration was now:

2 x KAC 921 Kenwood 200W (bridge) Amps for the 2 subs
1 x KAC 821 Kenwood 2x75W for the mid & highs

2 x 250W Bandpass Hifonics subwoofer
2 x 150W 3 way mid & high speakers

1 x Monacor active subwoofer filter
1 x Kenwood 12 levels equalizer

1 x some MP3 player main unit

The Sunny was sold in july 2004, so the music was sold out afterwards. I didnt have the nervers to prepare the next car for it again....

Freeair addition

Are the freeair subs really so bad? What if you really badly need very Low frequences and dont care so much about the power?...
Hm... lets check it.

This is what came next. The 15'' freeair sobwoofer with Vas = 500l = exactly the boot of the Vectra. The boot was hardly isolated, the rear speakers removed and the subwoofer attached to a hard mdf plate behind the seats, showing through the arm rest. Oh yeah - it was also neon lightend.
The aim was bass, which cannot be heard but felt everywhere on the car body. I wanted the seat moving bass.

And yes - it happened. Playing the sub with 150 watts instead of 250 (it's nominal) it was still loud enougn for the mid speakers but offering a very nice bass.
As a positive affect of all this I had my whole 500 liters boot empty!:)
I still like this combination and dont mind using it again in any car as far as the boot is really gooooood isolated.

The winter of 2002

The yellow sub suddenly stopped playing so I decided to experiment and bought another sub, which was attached on the other side of the box. That was supposed to be the combination of an active and passive (my yellow dead) subwoofer.
This is how it looked.

The box was looking loud, but the sound was worse. Very hard suspensed, the new black subwoofer was not doing its job well. Soon after this I saw the reason for the not working yellow sub and after fixing it, the black one left the box... forever!:)

Something like THe BeGiNNiNG

It was in the far 2002... being without a car and a driving licence in Germany, my thoughts were often with it in Bulgaria. I was feeling like doing something for it... something new. Through the eBay I bought (my first buy from eBay) a MTX 30'' 250 Watts Sub. Now i needed the Amp. The Amp was the Pyle SA 290.
The Amp came after a week, but the sub didnt. So my first eBay buy was not that successful.
Anyway, in the spring of 2002 I came back with it and started looking for the sub. Huh... not an easy job. After I've put the amp in the Vectra I was going trough the shops and checking everithing they had just live - in the boot. The differences in the watts and the sound were really huge. So after checking all know to me shops in Plovdiv and Sofia I made my choice - the yellow ZTE sub, which had like 500 max Watts, what had to correspond to like 150 (maybe) real watts.

First box calculations... or maybe comparisons, because I took the size of the MTX box I wanted to build. 90 liters efective volume and I bass reflex was what I did. After painting it black it looked really nice with the yellow sub.
The sub in action (at a picknik in the Rhodopas):

The most amazing thing was the sound. Good soft deep bass through the whole spectrum. I must say... it is still the best (not the strongest) sound I've heard from a subwoofer box.
The RC at this moment was Sony, which was doing it's job well, offering extensibility with my MP3 player.
